Recently took the bike out and noticed that the helmet has a very funky smell so during one of the recent public holiday, I decided to wash the helmet liner (more like the entire helmet). Asked my best friend Mr. Google on ways to wash a non-removable helmet liner and got a rough idea.
All I needed was water, a large enough bucket to completely soak the helmet, a mild washing detergent, a good airy place to dry the helmet and of course the helmet.
First thing to do is to remove all movable parts from the helmet. In my case, it is the visor. Then fill the tub with water but to make sure that the water won't overflow when the helmet is full submerged. Next is to rinse the helmet followed by submerging it into the tub bottom down first.
Make sure to hold the helmet down as it will float and while doing so scrub the helmet. Once that is done flip it upside down and repeat. When the liner is fully soaked, take the mild detergent and rub it all over the liner.
In my case there are some water in the helmet. The more I rub the soap into the liner, I can see the transition from clear water to dirty. Make sure to sure some force so that the soap can penetrate the sponge and liner. Once you are happy with it, leave the helmet in the tub awhile.
Remove the helmet, rinse it thoroughly to get all the soap out from the sponge and liner and finally leave it out in the open (not under direct sun) for the helmet to dry. You can also help dry the helmet faster by getting rid of the excess water by squeezing the sponge.
Lastly place the helmet on a open airy space to dry it. If weather is good, the helmet should dry within the day.
Look at how dirty the water is after washing the helmet
Remember to ride safe, be vigilant and keep the rubber side down
