Shoei GT-Air 2 review

Recently had a helmet discussion with a colleague of mine who just started riding. He made the mistake of getting a helmet online without going to the physical shop to personally try on the helmet to get the right sizing. Long story short, he bought two helmets which were in the wrong sizes. Told my friend about the discussion and the next thing I knew she was looking at full face helmets and comparisons online and one name always came up on top: Shoei GT-Air 2. We came across the new Shoei 2020 Graphics and this particular graphics caught our attention.

When I first saw the design it reminded me of Wolverine. Mind you I do not mean the modern Wolverine uniform which we see in the X-Men movies but his uniform from the 1990's:

On one of the previous trip to MegaBike, we 'reserved' a Shoei helmet which we promised to pick up next weekend. The weekend came and made another trip down to get the helmet. While we were there, Lai Seng was kind enough to help install the Amp Go 200 bluetooth which we bought about a month ago.

There is a liner for the ear cutout in the helmet which needs to be removed when installing any type of speakers.

Life-hack: Anti-Fog Visor

Ever gone riding in the rain where you should not to open your visor but yet you need to else you cannot see anything to save your life? What about riding in the cool morning enjoying the coldness but cannot open the visor unless you want to freeze your eyes out? I have a simple solution.

What causes fog in the visor?

Fog happens is because of difference in air temperature. The temperature in the helmet is warm because of the heat and hot air from your breath and the temperature outside is cooler when it is raining, snowing or during the morning. This difference in temperature causes the warm air to condense on the surface of the visor and causes it to fog up. This is the same concept as putting ice into a cup and the condensation will happen on the outside. In order to solve this, I will try a simple and cheap method using shaving cream.

Was contemplating for a long time in getting a new helmet since I got the Vulcan. It would be a modular mainly because I am wearing specs and it would get hot in the helmet while waiting in the traffic. The only helmet I have worn is the X-Dot 3/4 helmet.

For a long time I was leaning towards the LS2 which was within my (very limited and very little) budget. First I was thinking of getting the LS2 Metro Firefly, then the LS2 Valiant. Read and watched a lot of review about those 2 helmets until I came across the MT Helmets at the beginning of the year. I love the aggressive look especially their Atom SV line. 

Asked a few owners from the MT Helmet facebook page and they said the helmet is nice and comfortable. They have no complains about the fit and it is quiet. The additional plus side is that it is within the budget. The only downside is that there aren't a lot of English speaking reviews on the net. 

I also came across the Airoh brand and the only modular available in my little island is the Rides. Surprisingly it is also within the budget but as with the MT Helmets, there are little English version review of this helmet available in the net.

Washing a non-removable helmet liner

Recently took the bike out and noticed that the helmet has a very funky smell so during one of the recent public holiday, I decided to wash the helmet liner (more like the entire helmet). Asked my best friend Mr. Google on ways to wash a non-removable helmet liner and got a rough idea.

All I needed was water, a large enough bucket to completely soak the helmet, a mild washing detergent, a good airy place to dry the helmet and of course the helmet.
