Anyone
motorcyclists knows that they will be exposed to dust particles,
pollen, sand, poor air quality, etc. compared to those in the car. One
way to keep most of these things is to get a mask. There are lots of
mask options in the market and the cheapest and easier would be the
surgical mask. The problem with surgical masks is that it gets hot and
starts getting damp then it will need to be replaced. Another option is
to get the headwear. I do have the headwear but I am using it as a liner
between the helmet and my head as I sweat a lot. This is where the Givi
PLM01 riding mask comes in.
Packaging:
The
mask comes in its own carrying bag which is very useful. According to
the front of the bag, the mask is breathable, flexible and most
importantly washable as you will sweat in it. |
This is everything in the bag. The mask (bottom), additional filter (top right) and the bag (top left) |
Inside the carrying case there are 2 compartments. One for the extra filter and the other is for the mask itself |
Product:
According to the 'instruction' sheet the mask has a velcro attachment, an anti-leak flap, stretchable and an activated carbon filter (which I have no idea what it means) |
The front of the mask looks like what Bane would wear. Upon a closer inspection it looks more like a monster with 3 pair of eyes staring 'assisting' you to watch out for road hazard while on the bike. The whites of the eyes are where the filter is |
There is nothing sinister about the back of the mask. It is actually very plain. The top 2 flaps are the anti-leak flaps which prevents water from entering. I have not had the chance to try this feature out but I will when I ride during the rainy season. The filter is held onto the mack by 2 pieces of Velcro and it is easily replaced and removed |
This is how the mask looks like when worn with the HJC IS-Max II. One cannot really notice the mask when the chin guard is down
Conclusion:
Is it worth getting? It depends on individual. If you are wearing full face helmet I would not recommend it. The chin guard will push the mask closer to the mouth and it does get uncomfortable after awhile. If you are wearing the jet type of helmet then I would recommend getting the mask. Just note that the mask does feel hot and sometimes it feels restricted when you move your head side to side. All in all it is a personal preference and I would be using mine as a face mask and not while riding
Remember to ride safe, be vigilant and keep the rubber side down
